The welfare state is not really about welfare for the masses. It is about the egos of the elites. One of the most dangerous things about the welfare state is that it breaks the connection between what people have produced and what they consume…The ancient evil of greed shows its face in the assertion of entitlement…Entitlement is generally selfish. It demands much and it gives little or nothing.
“Maybe it’s time we all stop trying to outsmart the truth and let it have its day.”–Alfred Pennyworth, Dark Knight Rises.
“Here…was one of the most difficult enterprises of the [French] Revolution…one of the difficult problems of our time: how to build a social order upon a system of morality independent of religious belief.”–Will Durant, The Age of Napoleon, p. 127.
Freedom cannot come from a lack of order. Individual freedom does not come by railing against the existing authority especially if inwardly those individuals are not at peace with themselves and individual virtue is not valued for those persons or for others. True freedom cannot be borne from cries for “equality” when the motivation behind those cries are jealousy, envy, greed, vanity, hate, deception or intolerance from other’s freedom of speech. I do not want to be part of any revolution that pretends liberation while embracing the values of totalitarians.
